Adverbial Clause কাকে বলে?

আপনারা জানেন, Subordinate Clause তিন প্রকার হয়ে থাকে। তাদের মধ্যে অন্যতম হলো Adverbial Clause, যা জানা থাকা ইংরেজি শেখার ক্ষেত্রে অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

যে বাক্যাংশ (Clause) ক্রিয়া-বিশেষণের (Adverb) কাজ করে তাকে Adverbial Clause বলা হয়। In English, The clause which does the work of adverb is called adverbial clause.

Adverbial Clause কত প্রকার ও কি কি?

Adverbial Clause অনেক প্রকার হয়ে থাকে। তাদের মধ্যে যেগুলো সবচেয়ে বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয় সেগুলো আপনাদের সাথে শেয়ার করলাম। আশা করছি, এইগুলো জানলেই আপনার এই টপিক নিয়ে চিন্তা করা লাগবে না।

প্রত্যেকটি সম্পর্কে একটি সম্যক ধারণা থাকলে আপনাদের এই বিষয়টি ৯০% পরিষ্কার হয়ে যাবে। তাই মনোযোগ দিয়ে বোঝার চেষ্টা করুন।

Adverbial Clause of Time সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

যে Adverbial Clause গুলো When, After, As Soon As, While, Till/Until, Before, As ইত্যাদি দ্বারা শুরু হয় সেগুলোকে Adverbial Clause of Time বলা হয়ে থাকে। এই Clause কে Main Clause এর আগে বা বসানো যায়; তবে, আগে বসালে কমা দিতে হয় এবং পরে বসালে কমা দিতে হয় না। 

For Example, [When I was five = Adverbial Clause of Time), I went to a primary school. 

Adverbial Clause of Reason সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

Because, Since এবং As দ্বারা যেসব Adverbial Clause শুরু হয় এবং কোনো একটি কারণ বোঝায় সেগুলোকে Adverbial Clause of Reason বলা হয়ে থাকে। 

For Example, He could not attend the meeting [because he was ill = Adverbial Clause of Reason].

Adverbial Clause of Concession সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

Though, Although দ্বারা যেসব Adverbial Clause শুরু হয়ে কোনো কিছু স্বীকার করা বোঝায় সেগুলোকে Adverbial Clause of Concession বলে। সাধারণত, though এবং although এই অর্থ প্রকাশ করে থাকে।

For Example, [Though he is poor = Adverbial Clause of Concession], he is honest.

Adverbial Clause of Condition সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

যে সব Adverbial Clause দ্বারা শর্ত প্রকাশ করা হয় এবং সাধারণত If দ্বারা শুরু হয় সেগুলোকে Adverbial Clause of Condition বলা হয়ে থাকে। এগুলো মূলত ৪ ধরনের হয়ে থাকে। সেই ৪ টি ধরন নিচে উল্লেখ করার চেষ্টা করলাম।

First Conditional, Future tense in the main clause + simple present tense or, imperative sentence.
Second Conditional, Future tense in the main clause (subject + should/would/might + base form of the verb) + Past tense
Third Conditional, (Sub + should have/would have or, would have + past participle) in the main clause + past perfect
Zero Conditional, Will is used in the conditional clause. এটি দ্বারা মূলত Request বা Polite Request বোঝানো হয়।

Adverbial Clause of Comparison সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

যে Adverbial Clause টি Main Clause এর Adjective বা Adverb এর তুলনামূলক দিকটি Modify করে সেটিকে Adverbial Clause of Comparison বলা হয়ে থাকে।

For Example, He is wiser [than I thought = Adverbial Clause of Comparison.]

Adverbial Clause of Degree সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

যে Adverbial Clause টি as দ্বারা শুরু হয় এবং এটি Main Clause এ থাকা as কে modify করে তাকে Adverbial Clause of Comparison বলা হয়ে থাকে। তবে, না-সূচক বাক্যে Main Clause টিতে ‍as এর পরিবর্তে so ব্যবহৃত হয়।

For Example, He is as intelligent [as you are = Adverbial Clause of Degree.]

Adverbial Clause of Result সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

যে Adverbial Clause টি result প্রকাশ করে এবং Main Clause এর so অথবা, such এই Adverb কে modify করে এবং that দিয়ে শুরু হয় তাকে Adverbial Clause of Result বলা হয়। মনে রাখবেন, So এর পর Adjective এবং Adverb বসতে পারে। অন্যদিকে, Such এর পরে Noun বসে থাকে।

For Example, There was such a big crowd [that we could not see the film star = Adverbial Clause of Result]

Adverbial Clause of Purpose সম্পর্কে আলোচনা

যে Adverbial Clause টি ‍so that, in order that দিয়ে শুরু হয় এবং উদ্দেশ্য প্রকাশ করে থাকে তাকে Adverbial Clause of Purpose বলা হয়।

For Example, You must work hard [so that you may pass the examination.]
