Della, the economical housewife, has a tendency to save money from her daily marketing. She has saved money in one or two pennies by hard bargaining with the grocer, the vegetable seller, and the butcher for several months. But the money thus saved by close dealing and with the silent imputation of parsimony amounts to only one dollar and eighty-seven cents. She counts her savings again and again but the amount remains the same, and this amount of money does not allow her to buy a gift worthy of her beloved Jim.
